|  | As both a Head of School and a parent, I recognize that it is more necessary than ever for schools to be clear about their purpose and their value. Any competitive independent school can point to its attractive student-teacher ratio and roster of AP classes. But Archer has never defined or promoted itself according to its features alone. Founded by three highly academic and intellectual women, Archer was always intended to be an innovative school, a place where every programmatic decision is based on current research about how girls learn, develop, and thrive. And we have always believed that the ultimate worth of an Archer education lies in the promise of its outcomes.
The certainty of that promise is readily apparent in our hallways and our classrooms every day. Like our faculty and our parents, visitors to our campus often remark how unusually poised and stunningly confident Archer girls are. To my mind, the more important thing to note is the competence underlying that confidence. Regardless of her background, talents, or plans for the future, an Archer girl gains mastery of core competencies essential for success in the 21st century world. This outcome shapes the path our graduates will take for the rest of their lives. When asked to reflect on the impact their education has had, our alumnae invariably trace who they become and what they achieve directly back to their unique, transformative experiences at Archer.
An Archer girl knows the value of her education, even while she is in the midst of it, and is always happy to have an opportunity to talk to prospective students and parents about what makes her school at once an ambitious and joyful place.
