Archer Athletes Prepare for League Playoffs & Finals

Archer Athletics is out in front this fall season on the cross country course, volleyball and tennis courts, and in the pool. Middle School sports are closing out league play and preparing for playoffs. Upper School sports will clinch league championships in Tennis and Volleyball and head into CIF playoffs next week. 
Middle School:
  • Middle School Cross Country: Middle School Cross Country continues to stretch past individual and team personal records (PRs). In its third league meet, the team finished in second place. Only five points separated them from a first-place finish. Kate H. '25 led the team with a second-place finish and Lila B. '26 finished in the top 10. At the Cheviot Hills course this week, all five qualifying runners earned PRs. As Coach Leufroy says, "PR ALERT!" Jullie C. '24 took 1:09 seconds off her PR, Maia A. '24 shaved 50 seconds off her time, and Kate H. '24 had a 13-second PR with a time of 13:56. Lila matched her personal best and Gabriella S. '25 ran her fastest race of the season with a time of 16:40. The team has one league meet remaining on Tuesday, October 29. The league finals are on Monday, November 4. Both races are at the Cheviot Hills course at 3:50 p.m.
  • Middle School Swim: Middle School Swim took the lead early on this season and has maintained the first-place team position in its past two league meets. Archer's 200-medley relay team is Alexa G. '26, Amelia H. '24, Lacey T. '24, and Ella C. '24 and our 200-free team is Eden P. '26, Alexa, Amelia, and Lacey. Lacey is the top 100-IM swimmer in the league, along with Amelia who is the top swimmer in the 100-free. The team competes on Wednesday, October 23, at Brentwood at 3:30 p.m. 
  • Middle School Volleyball: The Middle School Volleyball teams continue to shine in their league with a three-game winning streak (2-0) against Brentwood, Westside Neighborhood School, and Geffen Academy. Both teams have their sights set on the upcoming PBL playoffs, which will be on Monday, October 28 - Wednesday, October 30.
Upper School:
  • Junior Varsity Volleyball: Under the leadership of captains Ali A. '22 and Mikaela W. '22, JV Volleyball jumped into first place in its league with wins against rivals Buckley and Milken (2-0). In addition, with grit, determination, and teamwork, they rallied together to defeat Crossroads in a thrilling 2-1 victory. The team finished its season on Thursday, October 17, against Oakwood. 
  • Varsity Volleyball: The team defeated Buckley with an incendiary 2-0 performance packed with grace, strength, and skill. Following the game, the Archer community celebrated seniors Andrea C. '20, Cydney J. '20, Alizeh J. '20, and Amelia N. '20. These seniors have led the team to victories against Glendale, Milken, and Crossroads, and finished seventh in the most competitive volleyball tournament in the South Bay at Redondo Beach High School last weekend. The team finished first in the league to clinch its seventh league championship and earned a top seed in CIF playoffs. Playoff information will be available on Monday, October 21.
  • Junior Varsity and Varsity Tennis: JV and Varsity Tennis have been lighting up the courts at UCLA and in the Valley. JV Tennis defeated Oakwood 3-1 in close matches. Varsity Tennis advanced to the finals of the USTA Tournament in the Marina and beat league opponents Oakwood 12-3 and Buckley 12-6, advancing to first place in the Liberty League. Archer's singles and doubles teams will compete in the Liberty League tournament on Wednesday, October 30, from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. and on Thursday, October 31, from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. at Balboa Park. 
  • Varsity Cross Country: The team has been running the hills from Santa Monica to Palos Verdes. The team finished third in the Coastal League Invitational and in its second league meet. They will represent Archer at Mt. SAC, the largest cross country meet in the U.S., on Friday, October 25.
