Archer Students Earn Top Honors at National High School Journalism Convention

The Archer Oracle placed fifth in Best in Show for small school news websites and and three Archer students received individual awards at the National High School Journalism Convention in Washington, D.C.
Journalism teacher Ms. Taylor and History teacher Ms. Niles accompanied 19 yearbook and Oracle students at the convention from Wednesday, November 20, to Saturday, November 24. Students visited the National Museum of African American History and Culture and attended a special luncheon with a panel of photojournalists to discuss the importance of diversity in newsrooms.

Zoe G. '23 earned an Honorable Mention in First Year Photography, Celeste R. '20 earned an Excellent rating in Commentary, and Anna B. '20 received a Superior rating in Press Law and Ethics at the competitive National Student Media Contests.

Some of them also had the opportunity to share their expertise with other student journalists. Siena M. '20 and Anna presented with Ms. Taylor on press freedom in private schools, Lola L. '20 and Celeste presented tips on how to cultivate columnists, and Ms. Taylor spoke on a panel where she advised students on how to navigate censorship at their schools.
