Archer Rises Up to Advance to CIF Volleyball Finals

Denny Lennon
Northridge - Down 2-1 in sets and facing elimination in the CIF semifinals before a packed gym at Heritage Christian High School (Northridge), The Archer School for Girls (Brentwood) volleyball team rose up to record the biggest victory in the history of the program, 25-21, 20-25, 13-25, 25-14, 15-11, and advance to the finals of the CIF-SS Division 7 playoffs. For the first time in school history, Archer will play for a CIF championship, against Foothill Technology High School (Ventura) on Friday, November 10, at Cerritos College in Norwalk. First serve is at 4:30 p.m.
Archer came out firing in the first set, holding a commanding lead when standout senior setter/outside hitter Locke L. '17 went down with a serious ankle injury. Archer won set one but fell behind 2-1 in sets after three. The return of Locke to the court, although limited due to the injury, gave the girls the emotional boost they needed to win set four behind the stellar play of sophomore standout Andrea C. '20. With a trip to the finals on the line in set five and pushed on by the raucous Archer fans, the squad put together a spirited effort to take the match. The 15-11 final set victory sent Archer and the Archer faithful into the finals. The trip to the championship game also clinched the team a spot in the State playoffs, another first for the Archer program.
