Artistic Director Wins National Contest for Playwriting 'of the Utmost Quality'

Archer Artistic Director Tracy Poverstein has won an award for writing Camp Stowaways, a coming-of-age play that highlights the struggles of children as they learn how to rely on themselves.
Ms. Poverstein joined Archer in 2000 and currently teaches Theatre Arts while also serving as an advisor to students.

As the winner of the 2018 A+ Playwriting Contest for Teachers, she will receive a royalty advance for her play to be published and Archer's Theatre department will receive a one-time check of $500. In a letter to Ms. Poverstein, the publisher of the Pioneer Drama Service said the contest found "the caliber of your work to be of the utmost quality."

Middle School students performed Camp Stowaways in 2017.

"I was especially impressed with the depth of each of your characters and how that amplified the humor of the show," Publisher Steven Fendrich wrote.
