Archer Fund FAQs

List of 10 frequently asked questions.

  • What is the Archer Fund?

The Archer Fund is the cornerstone of the School's fundraising efforts. Gifts provide an immediate and direct benefit to each student and faculty member, while also enhancing the quality and range of all school programming. Your annual gift to the Archer Fund is a direct investment in the excellence and breadth of Archer’s academics, faculty development, financial aid, arts, athletics, and co-curricular activities. All gifts are tax-deductible and help to offset expenses not covered by tuition.
  • What's the difference between the Archer Fund and the Campaign for Archer (Capital Campaign)?

Archer relies on the generosity of our donors' annual gifts from the Archer Fund to support 15% of the operating budget. This remains our funding priority to meet the needs of our exceptional program. While we are not in an active capital campaign, gifts to the Campaign for Archer funded the Diana Meehan Center, and were above and beyond donors' regular support of the school.
  • Doesn't tuition cover the cost of an Archer education?

Like most independent schools, Archer relies on the direct support of our parents, alumni, parents of alumni, grandparents, friends, faculty and staff to help fund the difference between what tuition provides and the actual cost of educating an Archer girl. Participation in the Archer Fund is an expected component of the parent-school partnership.

We are proud to say that Archer has a strong history of parent participation, achieving over 90% since its founding. Dedicated support from our Board of Trustees leads the way and even 100% of our Faculty and Staff participate each year. These participation rates send a strong statement of community commitment when Archer seeks outside funding through foundations and corporations.
  • How is my donation put to work?

Archer Fund contributions go toward supporting the programs and activities central to an Archer education. These include programs such as faculty professional development, athletics, technology, and performing and fine arts. In addition, Archer Fund donations support the School’s Flexible Tuition program, fulfilling our mission of maintaining a diverse and inclusive community.
  • I cannot make a gift at this time, but would like to do so later in the year. Can this be arranged?

Yes! Families may make a pledge by December 1 and pay later in the school year. The gift will be counted for the family’s participation in the Archer Fund this year, and the family will receive a pledge payment reminder from the Advancement Office in the spring.

Families may also establish a payment plan to automatically transfer gifts on specified dates.
  • How does parent participation work if we are a two-household family?

In a two-household family, we request participation from both households. If one parent donates, they can ask that they other parent receive participation credit for that gift. Otherwise, we still hope to receive gifts from both households.
  • How can I make my donation?

There are several options available to you.
    • You may send a check payable to The Archer School for Girls c/o Advancement, 11725 Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90049.

    • Make an Archer Fund pledge whereby you notify us of the total donation you would like to make for the year and when you would like payments to be made (monthly, quarterly, etc.) and we will set up an automatic payment schedule for you. Contact the Advancement Office at 310-873-7056.
  • Why am I asked for a specific gift?

Each year, the Board of Trustees approves Archer’s annual budget and the goal for the Archer Fund. The total requested from all donors is estimated based on the total needed to fund the budget for the school year. By taking into consideration past giving, we suggest a giving level for each donor and encourage everyone to make the appropriate decision for their family. Every gift is deeply valued and goes toward the excellent education provided for all Archer girls.
  • I have questions that are not answered here. Who can I call?

Contact the Advancement Office at advancement@archer.org or call 310-873-7056.
  • What recognition will I receive for my gift?

The Leadership Reception is held each fall to honor and recognize all donors who gave $5,000 or more to the Archer Fund in the previous school year.

All donors to the Archer Fund are listed in Archer’s Annual Report. Families may choose to make their gift anonymously.
