Archer Students Smoke Out the Competition for Junior Innovators
Nika H. ’29 and Kate R. ’28 have been named in the Top 300 Junior Innovators in the 2024 Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge for their joint project “Material vs Matter: a study of what materials can best block secondhand smoke inhalation” submitted in the 2023-2024 L.A. County Science and Engineering Fair. They were selected from nearly 2,000 competitors nationwide, all of whom had to place 1st or 2nd at their local science fair to qualify for this national competition. This marks Archer's 4th appearance in the Top 300 since 2017.Read More

From ‘First Class’ to ‘Clips and Clicks’: The Oracle Receives Recognition
Read MoreThe Oracle is starting off the year strong with momentum from last year’s accolades. The 2023-2024 Oracle staff received a First Class Rating from the National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA) with three marks of distinction. Additionally, they were awarded two wins from the NSPA's Clips and Clicks contest for the spring 2023 semester. The national competition received approximately 896 submissions that were judged by collegiate professors, student media advisers, and professional journalists. Only about 13% of entries were recognized with awards, of which Archer was represented twice. The 2023-2024 editorial board placed 2nd for their AI editorial and Gabby K. ’27 received 5th place for her op-ed about charging her batteries.

The Class of 2024 Graduates Onto Their Next Adventure
On Friday, May 24, students, families, special friends, Archer Trustees, and Co-Founders Dr. Diana Meehan and Megan Callaway gathered at the Skirball Cultural Center for the Class of 2024 Commencement Ceremony. Board of Trustees Co-Chair Tiffany Smith-Anoa’i and Associate Head of School For Teaching & Learning Karen Pavliscak welcomed attendees. Tess H. ’24 gave this year’s student commencement speech, diving into this year's theme of "brilliance," and Ms. Niles gave the faculty address, exploring the multifaceted nature of "love." After a performance of the class song “Somewhere Only We Know,” Upper School Student Body President Anaiya A. ’24 introduced this year's commencement speaker, Senator Barbara Boxer. In her address, Senator Boxer reminisced about the beginnings of Archer and encouraged the graduates to persevere in the real world with self-confidence. Associate Head of School for Teaching and Learning Ms. Pavliscak and two of Archer's Co-Founders, Dr. Diana Meehan and Megan Callaway, awarded diplomas to the Class of 2024, who ended the celebration with a performance of the school song, “Within the Walls of Archer.”Read More

Student STEM Symposium Welcomes Dr. Thaïs Aliabadi and Student Researchers from Across L.A.
Read MoreScience enthusiasts were invited to campus on Saturday, May 18, for the 2024 Archer Student STEM Symposium. The event featured the research and work of female high school scientists from schools across L.A. Attendees enjoyed two poster sessions, before viewing formal presentations in various breakout sessions. They then attended round table discussions that provided an opportunity for the STEM Symposium presenters to connect and discuss their research.

World Language Students Receive Recognition
Read MoreArcher's World Language program continues to distinguish itself. Our French language students amassed a number of medals and honorable mentions in Le Grand Concours earlier this spring, and our Chinese and Spanish language students have recently received recognition across the Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (HSK) Test, Chinese National Essay Contest, National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y), and the National Spanish Exam.

Seniors Celebrate College Decisions
Read MoreThe Class of 2024 celebrated their college decisions on Monday, May 13, during our annual pennant ceremony. Seniors, faculty, and staff came to school decked in their college gear and gathered in the Tia Palermo Library to hear a few words from the College Guidance team and participate in a rousing game of Kahoot about the Class of 2024. The seniors then engaged in our time honored tradition of collecting their college/university pennants and hanging them up in our College Guidance hallway.

Senior Receives Brentwood Community Council Civic Award
Read MoreRemi C. ’24 received the Brentwood Community Council Civic Award at a ceremony on Wednesday, May 8, during the monthly council meeting. Remi was awarded a medal and certificates from the offices of several municipal leaders, including Los Angeles City Council member Traci Park and Mayor Karen Bass, for her commitment to teen mental health and their work with Teen Line, an organization dedicated to supporting teens who are struggling and devoted to destigmatizing mental health issues.
