Math is 'Up for Debate' in Mr. Luzniak’s New Book

Math Department Chair Mr. Luzniak has traveled to conferences across the country to show teachers how they can utilize debate skills in their math classrooms. Recently, he had the opportunity to put his expertise in writing.
Published in October, Mr. Luzniak's book Up for Debate! includes stories, examples, and step-by-step routines teachers can use to cultivate a classroom culture where students can explain their thinking and critique each other's reasoning through debate activities, all in the context of math. "It's been a delight to combine my two passions – mathematics and debate – into activities all teachers can use to increase engagement in math classrooms," Mr. Luzniak said.
