Archer Students Recognized by Scholastic Art and Writing Awards
This winter, Archer students were awarded a number of regional Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, receiving 7 Gold Keys, 11 Silver Keys, and 12 Honorable Mentions across four writing categories and seven visual arts mediums.
For nearly 100 years, the Scholastic Writing Awards have recognized the talent of teen writers and artists. Former winners of Scholastic Writing Awards include Joyce Carol Oates, Truman Capote, Sylvia Plath, Carolyn Forché, and Stephen King. This year, three Archer students have been honored with regional Gold and Silver Keys and Honorable Mentions for their writing submitted to the 2021 Scholastic Writing Awards - a “stellar accomplishment,” as Ms. Bergen pointed out.
Gwendolyn H. ‘21 received a Gold Key in Poetry for “Myth” and a Silver Key in Poetry for “Dizzy;” Jacqueline M. ‘22 was awarded a Critical Essay Silver Key for “Assessing the Causes of the Japanese Economic Miracle,” and Chloe T. ‘23 received Honorable Mentions in the Personal Essay & Memoir and Short Story categories for “Terani Meets Tehran” and “Foreign,” respectively.
The Scholastic Art Awards recognized 20 Archer students for their artwork, with Archer students bringing home 6 Gold Keys, 9 Silver Keys, and 10 Honorable Mentions.
