Invention Club Presents Final Device at EurekaFest

Archer student inventors traveled to Boston to present their latest invention at Lemelson-MIT's EurekaFest on Wednesday, June 11.

FREDD, short for Fire Retardant & Erosion Diminishment Device, is the Archer Invention Club’s newest invention, aimed at addressing the environmental challenges of chemical retardants used on wildfires and the threat of landslides. Students have been working together both in an extracurricular club and in a class piloting the Lemelson-MIT Inventing Smart Solutions curriculum to bring FREDD to life. Archer’s Director of Engineering & Design Programs, Mike Carter, notes that students pitched a wide range of ideas for inventions in the fall and coalesced around FREDD even before the outbreak of the devastating Palisades and Eaton fires this January gave their project new meaning.

As part of their presentation at EurekaFest, the Archer Invention Club presented a public showcase and a demo walkthrough. The students also had the opportunity to meet their peers at other schools and learn about their inventions.
