Environmentally Sustainable Campus

One of The Archer School for Girls' objectives in implementing the campus improvement plan is to make the campus even more green and environmentally sustainable.
Currently, the School incorporates green practices into nearly every facet of campus life with the help of the Archer Green Team that focuses on environmentally sustainable practices such as a comprehensive recycling program. Our on-campus community-wide garden is maintained by students and some of the produce grown is used in community service at Daybreak Women’s shelter.

The proposed construction will build on our commitment to sustainability, and be designed to meet LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) for Schools building criteria. The goal of the plan is to reduce water consumption and energy use through green building and landscaping practices.

  • Sustainable Design

    Sustainable design features will include the abundant use of natural light, roofs covered in reflective material to deflect the sun’s heat and reduce demand for air conditioning, energy-saving light systems, and insulated windows designed to keep buildings cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
  • Water Conservation

    The campus improvement plan is designed to reduce the use of potable water on campus. Measures will include high-efficiency plumbing fixtures and climate-based irrigation controls, use of recycled water for irrigation, native vegetation for non-sportsfield areas, and bioswales to capture stormwater.
  • Recycling

    Archer is committed to its robust recycling program. Our food vendor uses all biodegradable materials and no disposable plastic water bottles are sold on campus—the School has filtered water coolers throughout the grounds. Additionally, Archer actively recycles both solid and green waste across campus.
