2018 Spring Athletics Delivering Another Record-Breaking Season

The Archer School for Girls is enjoying another strong athletic year, one that started with a CIF-SS volleyball championship in the fall and continues in the pursuit of more championships this spring. Archer is looking to add to the CIF-SS banner collection in track and softball as the 2017-2018 year comes down the stretch. 
In all sports this year, Archer teams have won five league championships and each team has qualified for post-season competition. When the sports program gathers at the Archer Sports Awards Night on Monday, May 21, there will be much to celebrate.

Track
Varsity track won the League Championship for the first time in school history and qualified two relay teams along with three sprinters and one pole vaulter to the CIF-SS prelims. At the CIF-SS division 4 track prelims on Saturday, May 12 at Carpinteria High School, 9th grader Starrlyn Brown qualified for the 100m hurdles finals and junior Miayunique South qualified for the pole vault finals. South, who finished in second place at last year’s finals, is a favorite to win the pole vault this year. Should South win this Saturday she will become thefirst Archer individual athlete ever to win a CIF-SS championship.

The CIF-SS track finals take place Saturday, May 19 at El Camino College in Torrance, with the pole vault competition scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. and the 100m hurdles at 2:00 p.m.

Softball
Varsity softball won the League Championship and finished the regular season with a 16-4 overall record, with key wins over Campbell Hall and St. Monica. The team is seeded #2 in the upcoming division 7 CIF-SS playoffs.

Archer’s first round playoff game is this Thursday, May 17 at Clover Park in Santa Monica. The first pitch is at 3:15 p.m.

Swimming
Varsity swimming won the League Championshipfor the fourth straight year and qualified eight swimmers for the CIF-SS division 4 prelims. At the CIF-SS division 4 swimming finals last Friday, May 11 at the Riverside Aquatics Complex, Senior Saskia Wong-Smith won 4th place in the 100yd butterfly and Archer’s 40yd freestyle team won 4th place as well. Overall, Archer finished in 11th place in the 120-school division 4.

Equestrian
The Archer Equestrian team completed one of the most successful seasons to date. The girls finished the season as the Novice Overall Team High Score Team and Freshman Overall Team Reserve Champion.

Beach Volleyball
Varsity beach volleyball qualified for the IBVL playoffs for the second straight season with a third place finish in the Westside division.
