Archer STEM Symposium

Event Details

Saturday, May 17, 2025

The mission of the annual Archer STEM Symposium is to empower and celebrate young women in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) in Los Angeles. We provide a platform for showcasing their independent or small group projects to peers, educators, and industry professionals. Our goal is to inspire, motivate, and amplify the voices of the next generation of female STEM leaders, breaking barriers and fostering a supportive community that promotes diversity and innovation.

We invite high school female students or teams of female students who have completed independent research to present at the event (see details below). Any interested parties are invited to attend; this includes but is not limited to peers, family, teachers, and STEM professionals. Presenters and attendees will have an opportunity to network, exchange ideas, and learn about advanced STEM research.

The event will include poster sessions and formal presentations from female students from Los Angeles area high schools, round table discussions, a keynote address, and recognition of the 2025 Research in Science and Engineering (RISE) Scholars.

Keynote Speaker: Danielle Marsh

Danielle Marsh is a senior systems engineer at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), with extensive experience in spacecraft design across several interplanetary and Earth-observing missions. Originally from Grand Ledge, MI, Marsh holds both a Master of Engineering in Space Systems Engineering and a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Michigan. Prior to coming to JPL in 2014, Marsh worked at Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) from 2008-2014. Now based in Southern California, Marsh has been a key engineering leader at JPL, where she currently serves as the Sample Transfer and Handling Lead Systems Engineer for the Mars Sample Return Mission’s Sample Retrieval Lander. Over the course of her 17-year career, she has built a strong reputation for technical expertise and leadership across the space industry, through contributions to numerous high-profile missions—including Mars Sample Return, Psyche, Europa Clipper, SMAP, Parker Solar Probe, and Van Allen Probes.

Outside of her professional life, Danielle Marsh is a competitive long-distance road and trail runner, having completed 27 marathons and two 50Ks. Marsh is also a classically trained pianist, and an alumnus of the University of Michigan Marching Band. Danielle is the recipient of multiple NASA awards, including the prestigious Early Career Public Achievement Medal, and has been recognized for her contributions to mission success, innovation, and team leadership. Her passion for both technical excellence and personal achievement drives her success in both the space industry and beyond.

Participate in the 2025 Archer STEM Symposium

Are you a high school female student or team of students that has completed independent research in a STEM discipline? If so, please join us at the 2025 Archer STEM Symposium.

Poster Sessions

All participants will be able to present their research during one of two poster sessions. In order to participate, please complete this form by Monday, April 21, 2025. All students who submit this form will have space for their poster (36"x24") at the Archer STEM Symposium. Students will have the opportunity to stand by their poster and present their research to all interested parties.

RISE Scholar Award

In addition to presenting a poster, you are invited to apply for the RISE Scholar Award. This award recognizes exceptional young female STEM scholars in the Los Angeles area for their commitment to innovative scientific research and/or engineering and design projects. The RISE Scholars will present their research, be honored at the symposium, and receive a stipend. You can consult the RISE Scholar Award page for more information about the application process and report guidelines.
